Rewilding Your Life

A Therapeutic Shamanism In-Depth Online Course

This course has been a long time in the making. The college has been running for over ten years now. In that time, although I have seen how much people love the weekends and get from them, I have also often heard people say that, when they are back home, they can find it hard to integrate shamanism into their everyday lives. Whilst the degree to which this is true varies from person to person, for many people shamanism can remain somewhat compartmentalised and mainly confined to college weekends, and not as deeply embedded into them and their lives as they would like.

This compartmentalisation is symptomatic of the damaged society that we live in these days. Our modern-day middle-world human lives are characterised by a sense of separation. Lives that are largely disconnected from nature, surrounded by human-made things that we experience as not even alive, and where experiences of truly healthy community and connection can be all too rare.

It was not always like this, of course. Shamanism is part of a wider and ancient spirituality known as animism. Your animist ancestors did not just believe that everything was alive and conscious, they actually experienced the world in that way. They also experienced the world as an interconnected, living whole, something that they were part of and belonged to.

This course seeks to address the issues of the disconnection, compartmentalisation and self-domestication of modern-day life. Doing this means going beyond just shamanic journeying, and instead focusing on animism as a way of being. Although we will still do shamanic journeys on the course, the emphasis will be on looking at ways that we can apply animist thinking and practices to our lives outside of the online sessions. In practical terms, this will include looking at things like:

No life-style changes will be compulsory, of course! I fully understand about parts of us having resistance to change and an investment in things staying as they are. I also understand just how hard it can be to live in a more animist way these days, and how difficult it can be to really face up to the way in which we are living now. Because of that, what people choose to put into practice in their daily lives will be entirely up to them. The course is about finding out what (if any!) parts of animism you do want to bring into your life, and then about getting ideas, motivation and whatever support you need in doing so. As such, there will be an emphasis on group discussion, and on sharing ideas, information and resources. In this way we will be doing what our ancestors always did, which was, as a tribe, to take animist principles and shamanic practices and make them relevant to the times in which they lived. These days of course, given the nature of the challenges that we face, this will involve being creative and exploring new territory. In this way, the course will be a path that we make by walking together.

Structure. The course is divided into 5 online modules. Each module consists of 3 Sunday sessions at fortnightly intervals, with a gap before the next module (series of 3 Sundays) starts.

The dates are:-

Module 1: July 26, Aug 9, Aug 23

Module 2: Sept 20, Oct 4, Oct 18

Module 3: Nov 15, Nov 29, Dec 13

Module 4: Jan 10, Jan 24, Feb 7

Module 5: March 7, March 21, April 4

There are two sessions each Sunday, one in the morning then another after a short lunch break. The first session will start at 10. Sessions are average around 2 hours long, depending on what kind of session they are (some will be shorter, some may be a bit longer), meaning we finish sometime between 2pm to 3pm (3pm at the latest).

Cost. £100 for each module (so £500 for the whole course). Deposit is £30 per module (£150 for the whole course), with balancing payments of £70 per module. The balancing payments can be spread out over monthly installments (of just £35 per month).
