The Three Ravens College of Therapeutic Shamanism UK

The Foundation Course Teachers

Paul Francis

“I have been a teacher for just over thirty-five years now. I founded the Three Ravens college in 2008, and was the college’s principle (and often solo) teacher for many years. Over that time I have been carefully putting together a team of other people to help with the teaching, first with the introductory days, and more recently with the foundation courses. This means that I can now step back to some degree from the teaching (although I will still be involved!) and instead concentrate on developing other ways of making the work accessible to more people. This includes writing the “Therapeutic Shamanism” series of books, and working on developing online courses and so on.

Being able to do this is only possible because I have been able to put together a fantastic team of teachers for the foundation courses. They are all people I have personally trained in Therapeutic Shamanism, and have watched and worked with over time. They are also all people who bring a wealth of their own skills and experiences to the work and to the Three Ravens college. All are gifted shamanic practitioners, with a deep and powerful connection to Spirit, and all are people with the highest degree of professionalism, ethics and integrity. I feel truly blessed to be able to work with them in this next phase of the college’s life.

As the college continues to grow over the years, I will be carefully bringing in more teachers to help with the teaching, and with other aspects of the colleges work too.”

“I have been teaching the ‘Introduction to Shamanism’ course now for the last few years and I am really excited by this next phase in the development of the college.

For the last 30 years I have worked in the public sector. Mainly in youth and community work, though more recently I have specialised in museum and heritage educational projects and advocating on behalf of children in care.

I have run workshops and training events throughout my entire career.

Alongside this I have always been interested in alternative health. I am a yoga teacher and a passionate allotment grower.

Shamanism has been an incredible source of nourishment for me over the last 12 years. It has strengthened my connection with nature and brought me home to my authentic self.

I feel privileged and honoured to be teaching the foundation courses for our college.”

Jayne Birkett

“Since 1996 I have lived in Ambleside in the Lake District with my family, working in hospitality and and as a holistic and shamanic practitioner.

My training began in holistic health shortly after moving to the Lakes with body work, homeopathy and then shamanic therapy.

I really love working as a shamanic practitioner and have met some really lovely people both in my practice, whilst studying at The Three Ravens College and teaching introductory days.

It's a joy to be much more connected to the natural world, it's seasons, cycles, healthy patterns and always learning.”

Marie Edwards

"I have worked in various mental health, inpatient, education and community settings for the past 16 years with adults, young people, children and families. One of my main passions is in supporting people in recognising their true value, worth and creative potential in a world that has largely not enabled us to discover, ‘all that we are’ both as individuals and as a society as a whole. This, in part, seems to have led to us giving our power away to those who often wield it in highly destructive ways which we know has had devastating implications for all life on Earth.

I have followed a creative and therapeutic path since my late teens gaining a BA Honours degree in Creative Expressive Therapies and later a Masters in Art Psychotherapy; going on to complete further trainings in Group Analysis, Permaculture Design and Therapeutic Shamanism. I have more recently been engaging in further work in Eco-Therapy in the NHS incorporating an animist perspective and indigenous understandings as well as drawing from other therapeutic approaches. I also currently support The Northern School of Permaculture in their monthly publication, ‘Northern Edge’.

I believe strongly in Humanity as a species and even though we have lost our way, I feel sure that we can find fruitful ways forward, in unity. I am convinced that Therapeutic Shamanism has a pivotal role to play in our collective recovery and from my own experience I know how profoundly life changing it is! It is a real honour to work with others at this time in our great journey back to health and wholeness."

“I am a qualified Therapeutic Shamanic Practitioner, a Reiki Master and hold a certificate in Counselling Skills. I am a graduate of the Three Raven’s College of Therapeutic Shamanism, working with Paul Francis for the past 6 years.

My experiences over this time have simply been life-changing. As I’ve worked through my issues and deepened my connection to nature I have begun to step into my own power, bringing about a deeper sense of connection, creativity and belonging. From these personal experiences and having witnessed similar changes in others, I am deeply passionate about the impact of this work.

For the last 14 years, I have also worked in the homelessness sector across the country and continue to do so in a variety of projects which aim to enable vulnerable people to be heard and make positive changes in their lives.”
