TIME TRAVEL: HEALING THE PAST

Healing the family and ancestral burdens we carry, and the stories we inherit

time travel

Dates: November 15th to December 20th 2026

On the course, we explore:

  • Healing Family and Ancestral Burdens: Understand what family and ancestral burdens are, and learn safe and effective ways to uncover and heal them.
  • The Family as a System: Map your own family across three or more generations, and see the pattern on paper before you journey for it.
  • What Memory Actually Is: Why journeying back can genuinely change something, and where the honest limits of that lie.
  • Stories as Spells: How the story a family tells about a child becomes the story that child tells about themselves, and how to break it.
  • Personal Unburdening: Explore fort-holder strategies and experience a special family constellation approach for personal unburdening.
  • Journeying to the Past: Journey back in time to provide support and healing to our younger selves.
  • Collective Trauma: Trauma that is not personal or familial at all, but carried by a people, a class, or a place.
  • Putting It Down: Domestication and civilisation as the largest ancestral burden of all, and how to set it down.
  • … and much more

IN THis COURSE:

HEALING THE PAST: ANCESTRAL BURDENS

An ancestral burden is an emotional, psychological or cultural challenge passed from one generation to the next. Some are personal, rooted in our own family’s history. Others are collective, shared by a whole people, class or culture.

Some of what gets handed down travels culturally. Some of it travels physically. And some of it is simply mysterious. The loss of shamanism deprived us of the knowledge of how to heal any of it.

On this course you will learn safe and effective ways of doing so, including journeying to our Ancestors and doing an unburdening ritual.

JOURNEYING TO OUR PAST SELVES

By journeying back and supporting our younger selves, we create alternative, healthier timelines in which we responded in healthier ways. This lightens the burden of the past, and it allows us to make more conscious choices in the present.

It is not about pretending the past was other than it was. The body never lies, and rewriting a painful childhood into a lovely one only makes us sick.

What can change is the meaning we took from it, and the part of us that was left alone back there. That part can be reached. It can be accompanied.

THE FAMILY AS A SYSTEM

Families are not really collections of individuals. They behave far more like a single body, with anxiety travelling through the whole system and settling wherever it finds the weakest point.

Roles get handed out. The scapegoat, the hero, the lost child. And they rotate down the generations, often for two hundred years or more, without anyone ever choosing them.

So before any journeying at all, you will map your own family across three or more generations: the losses, the repetitions, the silences, the things nobody talks about. Seeing the pattern on paper first steadies the work, and it shows you what to journey for.

What shamanism adds is that the pattern is carried energetically as well as culturally. Which means it can be worked with directly, and not only understood.

THE STORIES WE INHERIT

Things are as they are because of the stories they tell themselves. An oak is an oak because the Oversoul of Oak tells it so. And we are who we are, in large part, because of the stories that were told about us long before we were old enough to argue back.

The word spell and the word spelling share a root, and the teaching is meant quite literally. Words cast. The story a family tells about a child becomes the story that child tells about themselves, and it will run for a lifetime unless it is caught.

That inner critical voice, for most of us, is not our own voice at all. It arrived through the family from the culture, and it was laid down before we had any language to question it. Which is exactly why it feels so true.

... AND HOW to put these burdens down, so that we can live more freely in the present.

DETAILS

The course starts on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 15TH and consists of:

6 pre-recorded theory modules. Each module contains a video presentation of between 1 and 3 hours in length, with accompanying learning resources. They will be released at weekly intervals, on Sundays, on November 15th, 22nd and 29th, and December 6th, 13th and 20th.

• As usual, a Signal group, where students can ask questions, discuss topics, share experiences and additional resources, and get support, encouragement, and a sense of community.

Bonus recordings if and when needed.

In addition, there is the option of adding:

6 live shamanic journeying sessions. On each of the 6 dates above, there will also be a Live Shamanic Journeying session. These are optional, so you can buy the course without these (for £150), or add all 6 live sessions for just £15 more (a saving of 50% on the usual Live Sessions price). Whilst the Live Sessions are optional, people who attend them usually find them of great benefit. The Live Sessions start at 2pm UK time and are two hours long. Click here for more details of our Live Shamanic Journeying sessions.

THE CURRICULUM

(MIGHT BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE)

THE FOUNDATION
  • Time as a function of the middle-world, and why the Lower and Upper Worlds sit outside it.
  • Time-travelling in journeys. Why going back and changing something creates a new timeline, rather than destroying the present.
  • What memory actually is, and why it matters here. Memory is not a recording waiting to be replayed. It is rebuilt every time we recall it.
  • Where the honest limits lie. Changing the meaning we took from an event is not the same as falsifying the event.
  • The parts of self involved in time-healing, and how to stalk which part of you is asking.
  • Your timeline: conception to now, decade by decade, marked with the turning points, the endings, and the points of soul loss.
THE FAMILY AS A SYSTEM
  • Families have a pattern of energy, ‘soul’. The family as a single emotional unit rather than a collection of individuals.
  • How unhealthy patterns can travel down family timelines, unless they are addressed and dissolved.
  • Differentiation of self from family dynamics. The roles: scapegoat, hero, lost child. Parentification, family secrets, enmeshment, cut-off, and the family myth.
  • Building your genogram: a map of your own family across three or more generations.
  • The drama triangle, and how its roles rotate down the generations.
  • Consent and ethics. Why we work with our own parts, and do not represent family members who have not agreed to it.
STORIES AS SPELLS
  • Things are as they are because of the stories they tell themselves. We can change our responses, our meanings and our stories. We cannot change other people.
  • Naming your family’s spells: what was said about you, and by whom.
  • The inner critic as the voice of the oppressor, arriving through the family before we had any language to question it.
  • Advertising, manufactured wants, and the Taker-culture stories that hold a hierarchy in place and make it look like the weather.
  • The hard edge. Changing a story is not gaslighting ourselves. Healthy story-change means going back and understanding, never dismissing.
  • Recapitulation techniques.
ANCESTRAL BURDENS
  • What an ancestral burden actually is. Ours and ancestral. Ours and bigger than us. And the rule against bypassing that goes with it.
  • How many ancestors we have, and why we are all related. Seven generations, and why that is roughly two hundred years.
  • The three routes of transmission: cultural, physical, and simply mysterious. Where the epigenetics evidence honestly stands, and how a burden can travel down a line through care rather than through the genes.
  • The journey down an ancestral timeline: clear intent, hollowing out, extra protection, reaching the origin event, asking permission, and cleansing afterwards.
  • Mythos not logos. A witnessed battle or witch-burning is symbol, not genealogy. Journeys are not family-history detective work.
  • The ethics of working on an ancestor.
COLLECTIVE TRAUMA
  • Trauma that is neither personal nor familial, but carried by a people, a class, or a place.
  • The Fall. Six thousand years of trauma, and the work as knitting the worlds back together.
  • The under-world, and why much of what people call Lower-World journeying is really the personal and collective unconscious. How to tell the difference, and why the confusion matters.
  • Types of grief, and grief as praise rather than a stage to be got through.
  • The Healing Grief Bowl, working down the ancestral line until it peters out at around seven generations.
  • Disentanglement.
PUTTING IT DOWN
  • Taker and Leaver cultures. The Original Instructions. Hunter-gatherer life as the healthy baseline.
  • How domestication actually changed us. Grain, storage, settlement and defensible wealth. And self-domestication, which we did to ourselves before anyone else did it to us.
  • The state as something that had to be built, and that people repeatedly walked away from on purpose.
  • Checking first whether parts of us are attached to the burden, since victimhood and useful anger will sabotage the work if they are not consulted.
  • Putting the burden down. The journey, or a middle-world ritual: making a representation in clay, straw or writing, and burning it, burying it, or casting it into the sea.
  • The living family. Boundaries and contact with the people who are still alive, which is the part of healing the past that is still in the room.
